Hole No. 2: In the style of C.B. Macdonald
Charles Blair Macdonald (1857-1939) is considered the, "father of American golf course design." With a brief look at his accomplishments, one can easily figure out why he was bestowed with this iconic title. C.B. laid out America's first 18 hole golf course, the Chicago Golf Club, which he finished in 1893. In 1909, his architectural prowess continued with the opening of the National Golf Links of America, located in Long Island, NY. There, C.B. recreated his versions of notable holes located in Great Britain. Macdonald teamed up with fellow "golf architect" (a term that Macdonald himself coined around 1910), Seth Raynor (Hole #8) to create many prominent courses over the years. One of those courses is The Old Course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Macdonald's work is on display as the PGA Tour visits the course for The Greenbrier Classic from June 29th - July 5th.
