Tribute Day: Robert Trent Jones (1906-2000) - Hole #18

  • The Architects Golf Club 700 Stryker Rd Phillipsburg, NJ, 08865 United States (map)

Join us for a round of golf as we pay tribute to Robert Trent Jones, the inspiration for hole #18.

Hole No. 18: In the style of Robert Trent Jones

Hole No. 18: In the style of Robert Trent Jones

Robert Trent Jones (1906-2000) is one of the most prolific names in all of golf course architecture. Jones designed or re-designed about 500 golf courses in at least 40 U.S. states and 35 other countries around the world. It has been joked that, "The sun never sets on a Robert Trent Jones golf course." Jones' seemingly endless resume includes Firestone Country Club in Ohio, Hazeltine in Minnesota, Mauna Kea in Hawaii and Valderrama in Spain. His formula of long tees, enormous greens and heavy use of bunkers showcased his belief that each hole should be a, "hard par, easy bogey." Jones' works will be on display at two PGA Tour events in two weeks. The Tour stops at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Gainseville, VA from July 27th - August 2nd, followed by a stop at Firestone Country Club in Akron, OH from August 3rd - August 9th.

Robert Trent Jones passed away during the construction of The Architects Golf Club. We hope our 18th hole is a fitting tribute to a man who may be the most influential course architect in golf's history. Our 18th hole has the largest green on the golf course and is ringed by bunkers.
