William Flynn, a talented athlete turned golf course designer, helped Hugh Wilson build Merion’s East Course before partnering with Howard Toomey in Toomey and Flynn. Flynn crafted renowned layouts like Philadelphia Country Club, Cherry Hills, and Shinnecock Hills, pioneering million-dollar courses and multiple tee boxes while favoring natural designs. Our 11th hole reflects his style: a twisting dogleg with slope-carved bunkers and a subtle green, free of artificial mounds or steep contours.
